About Clyde Butcher, the Artist
Clyde Butcher is widely considered to be a national treasure. His innovative landscape photography has astonished critics and art-lovers alike for years. Butcher was born in Kansas City in 1942. He eventually studied architecture at California Polytechnic State University. His interest in photography began when he realized he wasn’t able to draw architectural designs.
Because Butcher couldn’t afford a store-bought camera, he made one of his own.
In the 1960s, Butcher became increasingly drawn to the work of Ansel Adams, which led to his signature black and white landscape photographs.
