A Sensational Summer Begins in Sanibel: 5 Fun Events to Get You Started

Independence Day Fireworks Cruise

If you’re visiting for the 4th of July, you won’t want to miss the fireworks, and what better way to experience them than on the water? This fireworks cruise that Adventures in Paradise offers will take guests along San Carlos Bay, giving you a perfect seat for the main event. The cruise will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will return at approximately 9:30 p.m. Tickets are available online and cost $65 per person. Complimentary snacks, water, and soft drinks are included in your ticket price.

Reading in the Refuge

Every Wednesday through the end of July, visit J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge for Reading in the Refuge, a family-friendly story time that will give you more insight into the gorgeous nature of the area. While geared toward pre-K through 6th-grade students, this free event is fun for guests of all ages! You do not need to pre-register, and you will also have the chance to make an animal-themed craft. This event occurs from 10-11 a.m. each Wednesday.

Family Beach Walk

Another free program offered by J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge is the Family Beach Walk. This activity is perfect for getting outside with your loved ones and being up close and personal with the wildlife. Learn all about the beach and its inhabitants from one of the knowledgeable guides. No registration is required, and remember to bring your own water and sunscreen. Though the activity is free, parking fees apply at the meeting site, Gulfside City Park.

All-Inclusive Unlimited Watersports from Sunny Island

If you’re looking to get out on the water, head to nearby Captiva Island to Sunny Island Adventures. All summer long, they offer all of their watersports for one price, giving you the freedom to customize your experience. Take to the sky parasailing, or get some speed on a WaveRunner. Take it slow on a paddleboard, or try to keep your balance on a boogie board. Every Day Happy Hour at Sea Breeze Cafe

Wind down with a casual dinner and enjoy happy hour every day at the Sea Breeze Café. Throughout the summer, this eatery offers happy hour from 4-6 p.m. daily, as well as Margarita Mondays from 4-10 p.m. when you can enjoy $5 margaritas. Their food menu includes fresh seafood as well as classic land offerings, which you can enjoy inside or on the terrace overlooking the water. Sea Breeze Café is located at 1451 Middle Gulf Drive in Sanibel.
